Journal #5

chapters 13-15
perspective: Scout

One day when me and Jem got home there was asurprise waiting for us. Aunt Alexandra was waiting on the porch. At first I thought that it was a good thing, that she was staying with us for a little while. However, she was really a pain. She would tell me time and time again that i should be more lady like. She was trying to extract my personality out of me. Not only was she a pain, she was telling Atticus what to do and bossing him around. She probably thought that she was infallible or something. One time, when I was really starting to like Calpurnia, and we had agreed that I could see her at her house, aunt Alexandra tried to fire Cal. that was the only time that Atticus stepped up.

Then when i was becoming miserable and was forced by aunt Alexandra against my will, another surprise was waiting for me. At first i thought that there was a snake under my bed, so jem got a broom and hit it. But instead of a snake coming out, Dill emerged from under my bed. When i asked him how he got here he said that he ran away, because his parents didn't want him any more. He said that he aquired everything he asked for from them, but they always ignored him and went into their room to be by themselves.

The last thing that happened was when Atticus got some unexpected visitors. he went outside and everyone ran to the windows to get a glimpse of what was happening. We overheard some of their conversation and gathered that it was about Tom Robinson. later on that day atticus went out late and didn't tell us where he was going. jem said that he was going to try and find out where he went. I was going to tell him not to antagonize Atticus, but thought better about it. We found where he was and for some reason I jumped into the crowd and shouted hey Atticus. After all of the people who i didn't know looked at me like I was crazy I got embarrest. But when someone grabbed jem, who had disagreed to leave, I lost it and kicked him in the shin. Although I missed and got him in a place that made him squeel.

Journal #4

chapters 10- 12

perspective: Atticus

The most interesting and sad part of that day was when Tim johnson, who was infected by rabies died. Now something had to be done, he caused the whole neighborhood to be in peril. When I heard that he was mad, from Cal I didn't know that he was going to be that mad. Anyway, when he was coming close, and not anymore inconspicuous so someone had to put him at ease. The sherrif pulled out his gun, but to my surprise he handed it to me. I acted calm, but inside I was breathing fast, and i all of the sudden felt cold. It had been such a long time since I shot a gun. Plus i wasn't proud of my skill, and didn't really want Jem and scout to see what happened next. Poof. The dog fell to the floor, finally out of it's misery. After that the kids were inaudible , in shock.

In the next few days I sent the kids out to buy something at the store. Jem had been saving up. But when I got home I saw Ms. Dubos garden, which was destroyed. I had a feeling that I knew who it was. Jem had been getting irritated at Ms. Dubos constant nagging. When I asked him if he did it he didn't contradict me like I thought he might, he told the truth. So the fair solution was for him to go read at Ms. Dubos house every day. He did not like the idea of this whatsoever. But got it done, just before she died. The other old contempories had died already, she was a brave woman.

That was the last I saw of Jem and Scout, until I get back. I'm off to a business trip, and I have no idea of when I will get back.

journal #3

chapters 8-9
perspective: jem

Today started out great. it was snowing. Snowing in Maycomb! Even though I had never seen snow before, and knew almost nothing about it, I still was excited. My sister had absolutely no clue what was happening and thought that the world was ending. So we went outside, and there was dreadful Mr. Avery. He is of our aquaintance, but i wish that he wasn't. he had an "ingenious" idea that it was our fault for the snow. that we were bad or something. anyway me and scout made a snowman, but it was modeled to look like Mr. Avery. Because he really is mean. That was funny. But by atticus's perplexity i could tell that we should disguise it.

Next came some bad news. We were woken up by Atticus and I have to admit that I was scared. We saw fire and then we gathered that it was coming from Ms. Maudie's house. Mr Avery was fanatical about the whole situation. in a few minutes there was only ash. But Ms. maudie said that she hated that house and was thinking about burning it down herself.

Next we had Christmas dinner with Aunt Alexandra, which was a great meal. Three kinds of meet, vegetables, and cake. Yum. But there was a debate which led to an argument, which led to a punch between frances and Scout. I have never like Frances, he may be the single most boring kid in the whole country. All he wanted for christmas were cloths. Plus I overheard what he said about atticus, and i would have punched him too. But at least he didn't get away with his little act of being called a whore. my sister would never say that. She is a good girl.
