Chapter 9- A View To A Death

In Simons secret place the flies prefer dead pigs, such as the one that was killed by Jack and the hunters. Simon decided to go to where the beast was, and also where they put the pigs head. This used to be where the signal fire was, but the boys were to scared of the beast to go up there anymore. Simon finds when he goes to the beast that it isn't a beast at all it is only a dead aviator. He unties the parrachute, which was causing the mans head to move up and down in the wind so that he was "Finally resting". Everyone pretty much decided to go but Ralph said that they should go because it seemed like everyone else wanted to go, and they were really hungry. The Awkwardness of when Piggy and Ralph went to the feast was accepted because of Piggy's clumsieness. Everyone laughed at him, and that sort of unitied everyone but Piggy. Jack tells Ralph that the conch doesn't work on his side of the island. which is like saying that it doesn't work on the whole island. At the end of the party it gets really dark and windy, which makes it hard to see things. The boys, as they were acting out a play chanted, "Kill the pig, cut its throat, spill her blood". Which is what they chant after killing a pig. At the end of the party what all of the boys think is the beasty emerges into the feast, crawling. However, It was only Simon, but it was so dark the boys couldn't tell.

The thing that is responsable for Simons death is what Simon himself was talking about in an earlier meeting, "Maybe it's only us". Or the evil side of everyone. An example of when everyone is showing the evil side of themselves is when Jack, Ralph, and the hunters kill the pig in chapter 8, not only did they kill it, but they went way to far. This showed their evil side because they went to far, like cutting the head off, and sticking a spear up its butt, and bloody things that they did not need to do. My second example is the whole beasty insident. Infact it's the reason for Simon's death, they were so excited to kill the beasty, and so scared that when they saw the beasty, which was Simon they attacked him. This shows the evil side of everyone because they made a mistake and didn't realize it untill it was too late.
